Richard,

FWIW I use a third device (an old iPhone 6 as it happens) as a traffic radar display every time I fly. It works fine in navigation mode without being logged in. I log it in from time to time just to update the charts just in case (I have a fourth device, also not logged in, which I do update monthly as Tim suggests to use as my backup to my backup device 😊)

Just remember not to press Yes in the heat of the moment when it prompts you with the ‘Do you want to log this device in’ question and you’re out of WiFi range …. 😢

Feel free to try it. SkyDemon will tell you that you've been logged out, but it doesn't stop you using the data already on the device to navigate with.

If it is crucial to you that your backup device has the very latest charts* you can log it in once a month, update them, then log back in on your main device.

* it could be argued that a traditional backup is a paper chart, which is only updated once per year.

Yeah, to be fair, it's on us to ensure that any devices we plan to use, even if only planned as an emergency back, are up to date.

My main concern was not being able to navigate without logging in.  If this is not a problem, then all good.

It doesn't matter if your backup device has been logged out because you logged in a different device. It'll still work just fine for navigation in an emergency.

...and how do you keep the charts updated? :/

Richard, the situation describe above works just fine with the status quo. It doesn't matter if your backup device has been logged out because you logged in a different device. It'll still work just fine for navigation in an emergency.

We suffer a great deal already with people sharing their subscriptions with their friends. That is the reason we do not offer three simultaneous mobile devices on one personal license.

I second this, 2+1 mobile + desktop usage is not unusual nowadays. I am willing to pay a reasonable extra!

I would like to request that the limit be increased to 3 generally.  This is my reasoning:

I have 2 tablets, one primary, one backup.  These live in my flight bag and get configured with my planned route.
I also have SD on my phone and use it for keeping an eye the weather, notams, etc. when I'm not near my bag.

What concerns me is that I login on my phone which then logs out my backup device.  If my primary fails in flight then I will have to try to login on the backup in the cockpit, which is not ideal and maybe not even possible.

There is a fundamental difference in scenario that Tim outlined above.  When the device disconnects from the internet it does not remove the login session tokens and SD will continue to operate.

I don´t need a third one

If you are planning on using SkyDemon on three devices, like you have stated above, then yes I believe you do need a third mobile licence.
I‌f you simply want to use your phone as a backup in case of hardware failure, then putting up with an error message on the failed device should not really be an issue, as I would assume once back on the ground you would re-log back in on the failed device and the working iPad and this would then log-out the backup mobile.

J‌ust out of curiosity, what are you using two iPads for simultaneously showing SkyDemon in the cockpit?‌

My understanding is that SkyDemon is licensed for two mobile devices. Not two at the same time. Two. If you want to use SkyDemon on three devices, there are three options. A - accept the need to repeatedly log in as you flout the license conditions, and hope that Tim doesn't decide to implement the published rule more strictly. B - buy a second license. C - ask Tim nicely to produce a three-device license at for a (small) additional cost.

Well...
I fear that my post has been misunderstood‌.

I know that there are‌‌ 2 mobile licenses
I don´t need a third one
I just asked  for a way to avoid the warning which appears on one of my two iPads, when I previously logged in e.g. my android-device. Of course before logging in the android-device I logged off one of the iPads. Thats all I´d like to know or better: I just want to understand how the registering on the server is working. Nothing more. But maybe it is too difficult to describe what I mean (see my post here: http://forums.skydemon.aero/FindPost23491.aspx )

Best wishes,
Renzo
